A nature reserve with a view over the sea, The Nut State Reserve is a sparsely populated area where wallabies roam free. A chair lift can take you to the highest lookout point on a giant rock abutting the beach, or you may choose to hike up (with a sturdy pair of hiking boots) to get the perfect panoramic photo. The village below is a quaint place to relax after your day of exploration. Be sure to grab a seat near a window at one of the cafes, because the sunset may be the highlight of your day. The Nut State Reserve reviews
Only a short walk but quite steep, lovely walk with views once on top, easy to follow path. The chairlift wasn't operating even though it was school holidays. more »
The Nut walk was excellent, amazing views!!! The chair lift was unavailable due to the wind. I think that another hand rail would make the walk up & back down the Nut would make it a bit easier... more »
If you come to Stanley, you have to go to the Nut. Incredible 360 views of the bay, the sea and the Stanley area, and it's a great walk too! Lots of animal life up there. The walk up isn't as intimidating as some reviews suggest. It's a steep walk, and you'll feel your thighs burning, but it is paved the entire way up.
There is an amazing variety of forest on top of the nut and great views out to the ocean, so the steep climb is well worth it. It can be very windy, so caution would be advisable around the steep edges. There's pretty good ice cream at the shop, but unfortunately, no coffee.
