The Pumping Station was built in the 1890's to handle all of the raw sewerage in Melbourne where it would ultimately flow to Werribee to the south west. It operated in this capacity unti the 1960's..... more »

FANTASTIC EXAMPLE OF 19TH CENTURY TECHNOLOGY The Pumping Station is a great way to learn about water and sewerage approaches in big cities. This section of Scienceworks does a great job of displaying and explaining how Melbourne's early engineers built the sprawling system that still serves the city's needs
