The country's oldest bridge still in use, Richmond Bridge remains a testament to Tasmania's forced migration heritage. The sandstone arched structure was built by convicts between 1823 and 1825. An unsolved murder marked the early bridge's history, when a notorious prison guard fell asleep drunk on the bridge and was pushed off its edge by presumably one or more of the prisoners. A notable and attractive bridge on the outskirts of Richmond. Adequate free parking nearby with some pleasant riverside walks and lots of wildlife. Beautiful setting for a wedding, which is what brought us there in the first place. Richmond town is worth a visit too.

Beautiful bridge. Wonderful photo opportunities. I had friends get married on the wooden deck just near by. Was a beautiful location, but if you plan to get married there please actually book the site. If you do not book, DO NOT expect the site to be free, people to move for you or another wedding to get out of the way for you
