Carved out of the sandstone cliff face forming a rock bridge, Remarkable Cave is truly remarkable for its opening that takes roughly the shape of the map of Tasmania. A short drive from Port Arthur Historic Site, this intriguing geographical feature is best seen from the viewing platform that lies at the bottom of a steep slippery stairway. Notice the huge boulders near the mouth of the cave that were left when the back of the cave collapsed. The top of the cave serves as a good lookout point. At low tide, you can climb down off the platform and experience the cave from within. Add Remarkable Cave and other attractions to your Port Arthur trip itinerary using our Port Arthur day trip site.

  • Beautiful spot. If you're physically capable of jumping (then climbing back up) the safety fence (Only a 2m drop) it's amazing to get down into the cave it's self. If you head through and out the other end, there is this pretty little beach. CAUTION - This is nature, the wave action is strong and there is a very realist chance of being swept out to sea. Use common sense. This being said, get the timing right and you can float up and down the cave on your back being dragged around in the tide, which is rather fun.
  • Nothing really special. Had to jump the rail to get inside. The beach after the cave is nice and with cool waves. Takes maybe 20 min to explore and enjoy this place. Take of your socks before you walk the cave!
