  • Overlooking the beautiful Government Gardens at the Historic Settlement of Port Arthur is the Government Cottage. This brick building was built in 1836 for the head of the convict department, the Comptroller General and for visiting dignitaries. It was destroyed by the devastating bushfires in the area back in 1895 and again in 1897.
