Blackbutt Reserve provides a nature escape from Newcastle. Located in the southwest corner of the suburb of New Lambton, this reserve offers 182 hectares (450 acres) of bushland, nature trails, and recreational facilities. Visit the wildlife exhibits, including ones displaying the Australian king parrot, the brush-tailed rock wallaby, and the eastern long-necked turtle. Hug a koala at Koala Encounters and enjoy a picnic at one of the four picnic areas. Kids can enjoy the onsite playground, and the barbecue area makes a fine place for a picnic.
