  • Opened in 1856, it is the largest library within Melbourne, with more than 2 million books inside. With an impressive neoclassical facade and an octagonal reading room topped by a spectacular central vault, the building's architecture is well worth a visit. It's also a good place to work and take advantage of the free wifi it offers, as well as to take a break by having a coffee in the café that houses inside. You will also find it interesting to consult its calendar of activities (exhibitions, conferences, workshops...) or to know its permanent exhibitions, where a sample of several key objects for Victoria is exhibited.

  • The Library of the State of Victoria is located right in the centre of Melbourne. It is freely accessible to browse the Internet, read, breathe in a quiet environment. Or of course to look for something (book, newspaper, magazine, film, CD) about the state of Victoria. The historical building (a concatenation of 26 buildings) is worth to view. The six-storey high reading Room (Dome) from 1912 is the showpiece. There are also varying exhibitions of photographs and paintings. You can take a half-hour guided tour for free.

  • I received excellent advice from Jean Holland, Conservator, from the State Library of Victoria about my private book collection. I cannot rate Jean higher. Thank you so much Jean. Keep up the great work!
  • Free entry and a great place to study. The architecture is very intricate and beautiful. There are also paintings to look at. You can also get a guided tour of the library.
