Hugh Hamilton Wines, McLaren Vale

Hugh Hamilton’s cellar door is one of the most stunning in the McLaren Vale region in South Australia. It should be the first stop of any trip to McLaren Vale.

An inspired glass rotunda set on a ridge, it is the only place where you get a near 360-degree vista of the region, with views of the stunning rolling hills to the South, the Mt Lofty ranges to the east and the coast to the west.

Hugh is the fifth generation of the Hamilton family who planted the first vines in South Australia in 1837. All families have a black sheep and Hugh is it. You can expect therefore to enjoy the difference. The black sheep master of a most reprobate flock with wines such as ‘The Trickster’ Pinot Grigio, ‘The Rascal’ Shiraz ‘and The Moocher’ Mouvédre - this is no ordinary flock.

  • We had a wonderful experience here at Hugh Hamilton wines! Sabine was lovely and looked after us like one of the family! And the wines were five star! Couldn’t help but order a dozen to be sent home.
  • Enjoyed a wonderful visit to this winery. The venue is stunning and would make for a great wedding reception venue. The tasting experience was great with knowledgeable staff and the history of hugh Hamilton wines was really interesting to hear about. It’s a relaxed setting and worth a visit if you are visiting the McLaren Vale district.
