One of the largest museums not located in a capital city, Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery features wonderful collections of colonial art and Tasmanian history. The museum is located on two sites. The renovated warehouse at Inveresk Railyards features zoology collections and technology collection, as well as impressive colonial paintings. Its highlights are its working planetarium and displays with airplanes and railway workshops. For more artistic delights, visit the other location, at the Victorian-style Royal Park building, where traditional and contemporary art collections are displayed It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery and many more Launceston attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Launceston day trip planner.

  • The museum and art gallery are now two locations. They should probably be split up on TripAdvisor. They’re quite a walk apart. Both are free entry! 👌🏼 Museum - 4/5 A few exhibits were closed...  more »

  • Very interesting section dedicated to the history of Tasmanian railways. A good number of original artefacts on display. Free entry too. The hands on science section seemed to be a big hit with the schoolchildren. Unfortunately a number of exhibitions were closed at the time of my visit due to a forthcoming events.
  • I always enjoy learning about Australian history. The museum was fascinating with facts about the Tasmanian tiger and footage. I have first fleet ancestry, so I have an interest there. The aboriginal people have been though suffering from the white population.
