Cataract Gorge Reserve, Launceston

4.7
#1 of 118 in Wildlife in Tasmania
In a region characterized by natural beauty, Cataract Gorge Reserve sits as one of Tasmania's most magnificent features. The South Esk River carved the gorge and left behind a verdant landscape. Ride the world's longest single-span chairlift, which stretches a total of 457 m (1,499 ft) and features one span with a length of 308 m (1,010 ft). Walk around the colorful and immaculately landscaped gardens, admire majestic peacocks, or swim in the pool beneath the bright South Australian sun. The Gorge Restaurant and Basin Cafe both serve fresh fare. • A must see in Launceston, provided the weather is good. We visited on a hot summer day. It is a wonderful family friendly location. Children will have great time in the pool, as will adults. The chairlift provides scenic views of the gorge and reserve.
  • This is a really great reserve to check out while in Launceston. The best way to experience the reserve is from above: there is an amazing chairlift experience the park offers to travel from one end of the reserve to another. Breathtaking views over the water, make sure you pick a sunny day with a breeze. The paths below are well designed and offers a relaxing nature stroll for park goes to appreciate the gardens that surround. I really enjoyed the visit as a tourist; would absolutely be over the moon to be able to come here as I please if I were a local. A++
