Jim Jim Falls, Kakadu National Park

#5 of 22 in Parks in Kakadu National Park
Waterfall · Water Body
See the largest waterfall in Kakadu National Park, the Jim Jim Falls. The near vertical cliffs form a spectacular, steep 200 m (660 ft) drop for water that overflows from the rocky plateau top’s creeks and rivers onto floodplains below. In this dry and harsh environment, water volume varies from dramatic fall to a trickle in the dry season. You can access the falls only during the dry season and by 4WD. Camp in the area near to Jim Jim to see why the isolated and remote falls made it to the World Heritage List. • Loved visiting Jim Jim at the end of the dry, if you have a 4WD a definite must see. The campgrounds just before the falls was nice and cheap at $12pp with showers and bathroom facilities. Just be aware your in for a bumpy ride there with plenty of corrugations in the dirt track and plenty of clambering over rocks to get to the actual plunge pool.
  • 4x4 required, Great 1 kilometre hike, it’s not for all, a lot of climbing over boulders, Hiking boots required and some level of fitness. But well worth it. Heaven on earth, it will have you in awe.
