Well-maintained paths leading up to the Cradle Mountain encircle Dove Lake Circuit, home to a variety of native wildlife, including wombats, anteaters, and pademelons (small marsupials). The habitat includes unique native plants, such as the Tasmanian deciduous beach, tussock grasses, snow gums, and pencil pines. Formed by glaciation, this lake is now part of the protected Heritage Wilderness Area, which you can visit at the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. You can stroll around the lake on your own or join a long guided walk, such as the six-day Overland Track to the southern edge of this wilderness. Remember to bring waterproof clothes, as it rains almost 300 days a year in this area.   • This is an easy stroll - there are a couple of steep parts however there are stairs so it is still pretty simple. Just a gorgeous place. We did the circuit counter clockwise as we had come down from.....  more »
