Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park, Calga

4.3
This wildlife sanctuary in New South Wales offers a rare combination of free-roaming Aussie animals and ancient Aboriginal rock art. When you enter Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park, expect to be greeted by kangaroos. Wallabies and emus hop along the path to the visitor center. Along the 3 km (1.85 mi) of walking tracks, you'll see animals such as wallabies, wombat, flying foxes, and crocodiles. Meet Zoe, the park’s most-photographed kangaroo, with her sparkling studded collar. You can also get a photo with a koala or python. The rangers tell stories about the animals and their survival in the bush. At Aboriginal Heritage and Bush Tucker/Medicine tours, see the Hawkesbury engravings, one of 4,000 engravings, stencils, and paintings in the area. Learn how to throw a boomerang and pick out the shape of animals lurking in the trees. • We had such an amazing day today at the Wildlife Park! The rangers are awesome and really make sure people have a good time and learn so much about all the native Australian animals. Be sure to go to every half hour talk and the day is over before you know it! We also had two speed dates and that really was the cherry on the cake. Thanks everyone for making this day unforgettable!
  • Been here recently. See if you can identify the photo from winter 2014 when we first visited. Matilda the red collar kangaroo has grown and got a small bump in the belly. Although she still comes close to you to say hi, we were warned that she shouldn't be touched. But back in the 2014 she was the friendliest kangaroo around that loves human interaction. I suggest visitors take a look of this place's history and appreciate how much effort has been put into making the sanctuary for these wonderful animals. It's not like a zoo and should not be treated as one. Sometimes I would rather not have people know about this place as crowd could stress out the animals and they wouldn't want to interact with you. Though small and little changes throughout the years, this place is still worth the visit as the animals will show you what real outback Australia is like. Good to come for half a day and have a picnic with the animals around. When I have kids, this would be a great place to teach them about how to interact with the animals. The up close and personal experience is hard to come by. One tip is avoid going on hot summer day as animals hide from the heat and would like to just chill. You as a visitor would suffer as well as you would be walking around all hot and sweaty.
