In 1860, cuttings from Melbourne furnished the development of Ballarat Botanical Gardens. Some of the current trees dating back to this distribution. Today the gardens' fame comes from the begonia display and its extraordinary collection of 19th-century statues. Visit the glass house with the exotic flowers and the Adam Lindsay Gordon cottage, filled with locally produced arts and crafts. Take in the beauty of the Victorian Pleasure gardens with numerous statues throughout and a marvelous statue pavilion. Enjoy a sunny or shaded picnic or walk around Lake Wendouree and enjoy a coffee or meal at one of the many restaurants located along its shores. A typical botanical garden so always a good place to visit. It looks beautiful and is right across the road from the lake. Relax and walk around and enjoy the quiet garden and take in the fresh air... more »

Nice walk around the gardens, some items of interest such as prime ministers walk, some statues, etc. Plenty of nice places to relax for a while. Some music events and flower festivals too. more »

Lovely, spacious and well maintained garden with plenty of benches in both the sun and shade to have picnics. A wide variety of plants to look upon whilst you walk around the track that goes around the nearby lake which people are allowed to kayak in. Dogs allowed on leashes to enjoy the park as well. Facilities are clean and lots of parking and rubbish bins make it a convenient and lovely day out at the park

Quite a change from your usual botanical garden. Lots of open space with many mature trees interlaced with flower beds. The walk along the Prime Ministers Parade was a delight. The ex-POW Memorial at the end of the PM's Parade was very poignant and thought provoking. It was well maintained but we thought that it could do with a few more plants or flowers in the surrounding area.
