Learn about animals of the Caucasus or take hippo therapy at Yerevan Zoo. Spanning 35 hectares (86 acres), the zoo, established in 1940, has close to 3,000 animals from over 200 species. Syrian brown bears, Armenian mouflon, Bezoar goats, black vultures, and some vipers represent some of the South Caucasus and Armenia. There are camels, deer, hippos, Siberian and Bengali tigers, lions, lynxes, baboons, different kinds of monkeys, and deer. The prime pet of the zoo is an elephant. Children's playground area, a café, and affordable tickets make this spot a nice family visit. For extra-special treatment, take a VIP golf cart service for your family or go horseback riding. Put Yerevan Zoo into our Yerevan vacation site and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • If you are visiting Yerevan with kids, must do. Very low entry fee and kids are free. Small and compact area. Nice array of animals.  more »
  • Although its location is beautiful, it is in a valley surrounded by hills. Access to it is less than two dollars. Its most prominent flaws are the spacing of cages and positions. The height difference between the sites. Where the person is forced to make extra effort and fatigue when moving between its parts... Especially if he's old. It lacks pigs, turtles, giraffes and snakes. I recommend it to young people only.

  • Great zoo however I visited it on a holiday so keep in mind they have certain days which is zoo cleaning so you wont be able to see the tigers and lions and some other animals, I'm pretty sure the reptiles is closed too. So keep that in mind, overall nice zoo and great staff. One of the most sees in Yerevan
  • I haven't visited the Yerevan Zoo for about 10 years and was very surprised and happy to see that renovated. The Zoo differs a lot. It's much larger, spacious, green, neat & clean. Many animals now live in large outdoor enclosures and seem much happier. I hope monkeys will also relocate from their old and narrow cages soon. I also noticed good changes in people's attitude towards animals. I would like to mention Lida - a young friendly girl who takes care of horses and seems to really love them and enjoys her work. I wish the rest of the zookeepers of the Zoo were dedicated to their job and respected animals, too.
