#2 of 6 in Historic Sites in Vagharshapat
Dedicated to a beautiful virgin that caught the eye of a Roman emperor, Saint Hripsime Church was listed as a World Heritage Site as a well-preserved example of a classic Armenian structure from the 7th century. Legend has it that Hripsime escaped the marriage with Emperor Diocletian only to be captured by an Armenian king who tortured her to death after she refused his advances. The complex architectural design--known as "Hripsime Type"--was elaborated to save the edifice from earthquakes. • The story of Saint Crispina stoned by King Tiridate in love with her has something that takes your breath away, like this church where his relics are preserved, collected "still warm" says the reporter of the 4th century. There are the stones that were thrown at her. The king converted. Crispina was killed along with 39 other Vergii who had come here from Rome

  • I Visited Hripsime with OceanAir Travels and I don't know what to say. The best tour guide I’ve ever had. Here you can find the tomb of saint Hripsime and the church is very unique. The tomb is on the left side of the altar.
  • Saint Hripsime is a very nice place. It is one of the holiest site in Armenia. Here you can find the tomb of saint Hripsime who was one of the 37 virgins who left the Roman Empire for Armenia. The church is very unique. It has tall niches which save it from earthquakes. The inside of the church is dark with a single light coming from a window. The tomb is on the left side of the altar.
