Villa Ocampo, San Isidro

4.6
A charming house with a rich history, Villa Ocampo is the former home of Victoria Ocampo, one of Argentina's strongest cultural voices of the 20th century. Built in 1891 in an eclectic mix of British and French styles, the house became Ocampo's permanent residence in 1940. The influential founder of "Sur" magazine hosted such artistic luminaries as Albert Camus, Graham Greene, Le Corbusier, and Igor Stravinsky here. Since a 2003 restoration, the house has served as a museum providing an important look into Ocampo's life and career. Put Villa Ocampo into our San Isidro tour itinerary planning site and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Lovely place the house of the writer Victoria Ocampo, a woman who did not stop living anything. In his house were housed visits of letters, art of the world and European nobility. Taking tea there is wonderful and its garden is magnificent, it takes you back to the past everything and your imagination flies. You can't stop going mostly in spring.

  • Excellent Casona de la Belle Epoque Argentina. Very careful and with an instructional tour on the life of the Ocampo family. Lunch in its restaurant of French cuisine, at a very good price, is a pleasure, to get out of the customs of lunch escunty in restaurants of the city. Refinement, stillness and a beautiful garden landscape. I recommend doing it at the tables outside. If it's winter, they're approached by stoves and blankets for the cold.

  • This is one of the best places to visit if you’re around Buenos Aires: it is a gorgeous mansion up north from Capital Federal, once owned by great Victoria Ocampo, a pioneer in women’s rights and intellectual activist, you can visit the park, the house, enjoy a great lunch or tea, feel you just dropped into a different century. DO take the tour, the staff is truly kind and very well prepared.
  • Villa Ocampo, as a Cultural Observatory, has the mission to update the legacy of Victoria Ocampo to actively collaborate with the development of society in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The UNESCO Villa Ocampo Observatory assumes the task of capturing and disseminating knowledge on cultural diversity, creativity and heritage. It is a laboratory of ideas that calls for debate and reflection as a meeting point between the past and the present with a view to the future.
