Plaza Espana, Mendoza

#1 of 12 in Historic Sites in Mendoza
Garden · Historic Walking Area
Framed by lush vegetation, Plaza Espana features tiled benches, a central space with a fountain, and a large monument in the back, which stands as a testament to the founding of the city. The most distinctive feature of the square are the mosaics made of painted tiles, which cover the benches, the fountain floor, flowerpots, and the base of the monument. The tiled friezes depict scenes from the discovery of America and the work of the missionaries. Two powerful female figures of travertine marble represent Spain and Argentina. High school kids often use the square as a skating ground. To plan Mendoza vacation without wasting time, ask Inspirock to design an itinerary.
