Mercado Central, Mendoza

Farmers Market · Hidden Gem · Food & Drink
Stock up on groceries at Mercado Central, a vibrant, colorful city center market with oodles of premium meat, fish, and green produce under one roof. A wide variety of pork, chicken, fish, and beef make up a significant portion of the stalls, and nothing goes to waste: customers can choose anything from entrails and intestines to the more conventional cuts. If, however, the sight of whole gutted animals hanging upside down might upset you, steer clear. • This is more of an actual local's market (not that there's anything wrong with that!). There just wasn't much for me as a visitor. If I wanted to cook a suckling pig or massive BBQ, yes, this is...  more »

  • A classic Latin American market. If you want to get a real sense of where locals buy their ingredients for the day, this is it. Pretty much every single regional ingredient can be had here. For those of you new to Mendoza, you missed out on the old market and the old market smells (good and bad!) But what I cannot believe are the utterly foolish reviewers here complaining because there are no Mexican tortillas or Asian food. Not sure if I should find that insulting or comedic. WTF are you expecting? This is Mendoza. Not NYC or London. Have more respect for the region and appreciate a unique culture for a change instead of throwing a tortilla or soy sauce on everything. This is must visit place, especially during the busy times or Saturday before lunch. BTW, the best pizzeria is hidden here. Shhhhhhhh
  • Not much to see here as a tourist. Some of the meat vendors looked very good and there was a bakery in here that was very popular, so I'm sure it's great for locals, though. The hot food seemed unappealing for the most part. Leila and I stopped in here when we had a free day in Mendoza to walk around and see the city. We did stop in a craft shop nearby to pick up some matte cups, which was great.
