Mar del Plata Cathedral, Mar del Plata

#3 of 13 in Historic Sites in Mar del Plata
Religious Site · Tourist Spot
An important landmark, Mar del Plata Cathedral pays tribute to the Roman Catholic faith in Argentina. Erected in 1905, the neo-gothic church is dedicated to St. Peter the Apostle and St. Cecilia. Outside, admire the tall clock tower, which houses five bells donated from a workshop in Annecy, France. Three reliefs adorn the main façade and depict scenes from Jesus’ life, including the encounter with the adulteress. As you approach the cathedral from a distance, you’ll be able to see the glazed Viennese tiles that cover the roof. Inside, appreciate the stained-glass windows, the impressive woodwork, as well as several altars dedicated to Jesus and various saints.
