Playa Piedras Coloradas, Las Grutas

#1 of 8 in Things to do in Las Grutas
Wide and shallow stretches of sand alongside jagged Precambrian rock formations set a peaceful and tranquil scene at Playa Piedras Coloradas. While nearby beaches attract a noisy hostel crowd, this beach offers its own beach library where you can borrow a book, sit back, and read with the soothing sound of the waves in the background. The red rocks that dot the beach are more than five million years old, and provide ample opportunity to go hunting for fossils and petrified oysters. The shallow beachfront also attracts sandboarders- rent a board here and try it yourself. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Las Grutas holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Playa Piedras Coloradas and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The beach stands out, as it is not normal with its red color. To visit i recommend it at sunset as it takes some beautiful colors.

  • It is a secluded place in the city about 5/6 km away. It is quiet compared to the chaos of the downtown beaches. The redstones, some huge ones help one to settle, give you some shade, slow you down a bit of the wind. When the tide rises, cute piletons are formed for bathing in summer.
