Landmark · Tourist Spot
Drive along a notorious but highly scenic road to reach Cristo Redentor De Los Andes. Perched 3,832 m (12,572 ft) above sea level on the Andean border between Argentina and Chile, the impressive statue of Christ symbolizes the peaceful resolution to a border dispute between the two countries at the beginning of the 20th century. Look for the inscription etched around the monument's base, which promises that the two countries will maintain the peace they have worked towards, lest the mountains "crumble into dust." A visit to Cristo Redentor De Los Andes represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Las Cuevas day trip website to plot your vacation.

  • Great views at stunning 4000m above ocean. Bring warm clothes, the cold wind is strong. The road is open only on warmer months and mostly closed on winter days. There is a small place that sells a more than welcome hot chocolate and the tradicional 'alfajores'.
  • Good to see place. Usually crowdy but it's possible to wait a bit and shoot a nice photo of Crist, Argrntina&Chile flags or awesome mountain views. Acconcagua mountain is a bit hidden behind another mountain ridge but top still visible. Access there from Chile on 8km gravy road however a good driver with average reant-car can reach it. Of course 4x4wheel one is better. Beware you need to cross borders and get a stamp ;-)
