Plaza de Mayo, Buenos Aires

One of the city's main squares, Plaza de Mayo has long served as a hub for protests, activism, and political activity in the capital. Originally laid out in the late 16th century, the square features palm trees, gardens, and grassy stretches, all surrounded by historical buildings. The year 1810 saw the start of the nation's revolution against Spain begin here, and you'll likely see some sort of march or rally during your visit. Do take the opportunity to inspect the white obelisk in the center, a commemoration of the country's first year of independence from Spain. • We went with my husband and children to Plaza de May and were very happy with what we found... the square is spotless, very well maintained and when going in the week of May everything was decorated... Beautiful

  • Every time I go to Baires first I walk to Avenida De Mayo and I come to the Plaza De Mayo, for me it is almost a pelegrinage to pay homage to this beautiful city, I stop to see the Cabildo again, then I look to the left and greet the Cathedral with its Ancient Greek style, then I take to the House Rosada headquarters of the Gobierno, my heart rejoices in being in the city that I love as a second home.

  • Probably the place with most history in Argentina. Definitely worth a stop there to get an overview of all the antiquebuildongs. I would account approximately 30-60min depending how was you walk. Probably a guide or something similar would be helpful.
  • The museum is very well designed and structured, with access to all people. The park is well taken care of and is a nice place to sit on the grass or a bank and see the birds and everything.
