Trip Planner: South America / Argentina / Capital Federal District / Buenos Aires / Floralis Generica
A giant steel flower reveling in the sun's rays, Floralis Generica dazzles as its petals unfurl afresh each morning. Sprouting forth from a reflecting pool, this giant mechanical bloom represents the rebirth of the new day. Gifted to the people of Buenos Aires in 2002 by architect Eduardo Catalano, the monument has quickly become one of the city's most appealing attractions. At 23 m (75.5 ft), the sculpture cuts an impressive figure any time of day. If you arrive at sunrise, you'll see the flower gradually raise its head to the sky over the course of 20 minutes; at sunset, you can bid goodnight to the closing petals. Quite amazing flower sculpture constructed from stainless Steel. It is set within a pool, is 23m high and each petal weighs 3500Kg. Particularly unusual as it is a moving sculpture whose petals open and close with the time of day, so that the flower is fully closed at night. Worth stopping by if you're passing.
Great park to spend the day at, but be specially watchful for muggers lurking around. The might catch you off guard and spoil an otherwise pleasant day. In fact, there used to be a sign sticked to the main entrance that warned you about them being on the furthest side across the park.
