Bodega Catena Zapata, Agrelo

4.3
#5 of 82 in Wineries in Mendoza
In the wine-rich region of Mendoza, Bodega Catena Zapata produces popular wines and has been credited for raising the profile of Argentinean wines worldwide. A family-run operation, the winery was founded by Nicola Catena, an Italian immigrant, in 1902 and has been passed on to subsequent generations. Catena’s grandson, Nicolas Catena Zapata experimented and perfected vine growing in high altitudes and is said to be one of the first to introduce European techniques to the winemaking process in Argentina. Visit the winery, built in a pyramid-shape to reflect Mayan architecture, for a tour of the cellars and a wine tasting. Your guide will lead you through how to taste the wines, give out samples directly from the barrels, and teach you about the winemaking process. • Wine does not have the Q say, but the experience pays for the brand, very weak! Oenologist did not know how to answer some basic things and had a group 100% of Brazilians, Q is common and does not speak anything of Portuguese. For us OK, but most did not understand the Q she spoke... Without content about the product and lots of family information The Q is found in Google beautiful place, good wine, regular experience.

  • Must! The history, architecture, service and wine. Famous for the N.C. and D.V. Catena Zapata and Angelica Zapata wines. It's worth a go. We went to the Kahuak agency. Expensive but thanks.

  • Sent a couple of emails to book a visit, the first of them with a 2-month anticipation, got no answer at all! When I was in Mendoza I went to this (most) famous bodega just to see the place and buy some wines. The security guard rudely told me I couldn’t even enter the place without a reservation (which I tried to do, several times). Catena Zapata is the perfect example of the big and famous and successful company that loses customers precisely for despising them. Never again will buy a single bottle of the fabulous wine they make and this will have no importance to them whatsoever.
  • My friends and I have been to a dozen wineries in Mendoza. We were missing Catena Zapata, so we went online and asked for a reservation through email, twice. No answer in 5 days. Then we called three times in three different days, no answer. This speaks for itself, I’ll take my money and wine interests to smaller and more deserving wineries.
