Zekate House, Gjirokaster

4.5
#2 of 7 in Historic Sites in Gjirokaster County
Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
An intact Ottoman tower house, Zekate House is an example of a combination of Turkish and Albanian design sensibilities. You must request access to the house at the tourist office in the center of town, and be sure to ask for information on the attraction in English. A neighbor next door to the attraction keeps the key and lets you into the space. On the ground floor is a kitchen and a cistern. Take the central staircase to the family rooms and the third-floor reception room. The latter is covered in frescoes from ceiling to floor and lined with sofas in traditional Balkan style. By using our Gjirokaster road trip planner, you can arrange your visit to Zekate House and other attractions in Gjirokaster.

  • Great place to visit an authentic Ottoman house. There is also a small cafe beside the house with a great view over Gjokaster, which is run by the friendly owners of the house.
