Temple of Apollo, Side

Feel the enormous weight of history at the ancient ruins of Temple of Apollo on the Side peninsula. Dedicated the Greek god of light and sun, the temple has a counterpart dedicated to Athena, and both were constructed around the 2nd century CE. Take in a view of the harbor from here and appreciate the intricate detailing of the marble. While most of the temple lies in ruins, the remaining columns and foundation make it easy to imagine how this impressive temple would have once appeared. • These ruins are interesting, but the place is small really and there is not enough information. Pretty pictures can be had and it is free. Would be boring for kids and in the afternoon it can be prett...  more »
  • Use your imagination and erase the commercial backgrounds, lovely trip back into time. Take a hat, no shade and very dusty.  more »

  • Nice atmospheric place by the sea. Especially good-looking just before and during the sunset time. You can easily rich the place by foot from the nearby bus station (Otogar). There are a lot of nice cafes and restaurants close by.
  • I prefer SIDE area than Antalya. Around SIDE you will find a lot of historical places. You will see how close the two countries were, Greek and Turkey during ancient time before Turkey became Muslim. The food is also very similar to Greek. I like it.
  • Historically is this a "have too see"! Alltough its "only stones" it gives us an impression of how important the gods where for the people 2500 years ago...
  • Lovely looking ruins... such a shame the Turkish government allow people to wander freely through these ruins climbing all over them... surely they need protecting...
  • Beautiful place to visit , especially in late september......temperature was between 27 an 31 degrees.......ans sea temperaute was about 27 dergrees.....

Where to stay in Manavgat

Despite being a prime tourist destination because of its neighboring waterfalls, the town of Manavgat offers little in the way of accommodations. Instead, consider the coastal town of Side, just 2 km (1.24 mi) southwest of Manavgat. Here you'll find many options, including four-star resorts and mid-range hotels along the sandy beaches. The cape is home to more budget-friendly options--a handful of hostels and guesthouses. Stick to the cape to be within walking distance of restaurants, while not being too far from Manavgat. The waterfalls sit directly north of Manavgat, so allow for a little more travel time if you stay in Side.
