Patara Antik Kenti, Patara

#2 of 10 in Things to do in Patara
At the site of a prominent ancient city, Patara Antik Kenti preserve the crumbling remains of a parliament building, cultural facilities, and public baths. Also known as the birthplace of St. Nicholas, this city is responsible for the legend of Santa Claus. The 7th-century Arab raids brought devastation and transformed the metropolis into a village that eventually became a naval base. As you walk among its remains, look for tombs, pillars, a well-preserved theater, and monuments, such as one of the oldest lighthouses in the world. The area is also known for sheltering a vast number of birds. Buses pass here throughout the day. • Next to Patara beach and only an extra 7.50 lira to visit this site to climb , touch and see these well preserved ruins over 200 years old.
  • Very well presented and ongoing excavation work is still in evidence. A wonderful and impressive site. Nice new car park only let down with the toilet block still locked.
  • If you like looking and climbing around ancient monuments you'll love this site Make sure you have a hat and plenty of water it's a massive site and you might struggle with the heat
  • Interesting, atmospheric and very peaceful. Generally deserted but this makes the experience better.
  • Definitely worth seeing! Most of the buildings are still in a very good condition. We could access and make great photos.
