Hadrian's Gate, Antalya

4.3
#2 of 12 in Historic Sites in Antalya
Hadrian's Gate represents a triumphal arch dedicated to Roman emperor Hadrian, who came to the city in 130 CE. The gate sits flanked by two towers and richly decorated with marble columns, coffered ceilings, and stone carvings featuring floral motifs, rosettes, and lion heads. While the southern tower was built in Hadrian's time, the upper part of the northern tower represents the Seljuk period. Notice the deep trenches in the stone pavement under the central arch, imprinted by the wheels of thousands of wagons. Nearby streets are lined with restaurants and shops selling carpets, glassware, spices, and dried fruit. Observe the three-arched gate from one of the benches of the park on its east side while sipping tea (seek out an itinerant çaycı--a Turkish tea waiter). • As the symbol of Antalya. Historically known as marble door. The columns are made of marble completely white except for the. There are three door eye. There is a Latin inscription. Made in the name of the Roman Emperor hadrian. Popularly known as ' three Doors '. Those who are not necessarily keen on history is a place to see.

  • Everyone knows the best place and everybody's is the place to be a photograph of three doors. It's a great referee uniform, a long history, is a great architecture. The only problem is he's disrupting the integrity of the modern urbanization near the beauty.

  • Ask the locals for directions. Go through the gate to get to old town and then old harbour. Then take the glass lift back to the top for taxi rank.  more »

  • Well worth a visit. If possible climb the tower at the side of the arches ( access may be through the carpet shop) as there are good views / photography position at the top. Over the years the gate had been altered by the addition of protection over the entrance steps , but considering its age it is in good condition.
  • an easy attraction to see. nice to walk through towards the shops and restaurants close by.
  • A must see in Antalya(If you're interested into ancient history and civilisations)
  • one of the entries to the old city, great piece of roman architechrure
  • Very nice but not much more to it.

Where to stay in Antalya

The Mediterranean holiday spot of Antalya is abundant in places to stay. The Old Town of Kaleiçi boasts a plethora of small guesthouses and hostel offerings set in traditional Ottoman houses of stone. Often accompanied by a charming backyard pool and garden out front, these affordable accommodations are just a stone's throw from the harbor and amenities. You can find a few upscale boutique hotels here as well. If you're looking to splurge a little more, head to the suburb of Lara, just east of Antalya. Here, four- and five-star all-inclusive resorts dominate the sandy beaches.
