Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit), Bangkok

4.4
Witness the delicately modeled beauty of the world's largest gold seated Buddha at Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit). Many of Asia's golden statues were once covered in plaster and stucco to disguise them from invading armies during times of conflict. The discovery of this magnificent golden Buddha was accidental: a team of people moving the object dropped it, its plaster casing cracked, and the golden figure shone out after many years in hiding. Visit the established Bangkok temple complex to admire the Buddha's clear, crisp form and learn of its fascinating origins. • I went in the afternoon rain. Were with thought, but I wanted to take pictures in front of the building from the outside, unfortunately. But in the building shot freely made, Holy Buddha like? Interesting and helpful. On Monday the Museum is maybe off.

  • The temple is beautiful on the outside but is visited mainly for the chance to see the largest gold Buddha in the world. It was kept hidden behind a plaster façade for many years and rediscovered when...  more »
  • Estae is one of the temples that tourists should not miss visiting. No doubt the main attraction is the Golden Buddha. A statue with more than 5 tons of solid gold. It was all covered in plaster and was discovered during your relocation. In shipping the cast broke up the gold. Today the Buddha can be disassembled into nine parts, in case of new relocation. The temple complex also has the main prayer chapel where a monk is blessing.

  • Very nice Temple. Not as crowded as I've night think. Dying first that there are two small museums as well. While the one about the creation of Buddha statues is not that impressive and really small the one about the Chinese history is very nice (although 100% non-critical). There is a room in the museum that is dedicated to a recreation of what city life looked like in older times which I really enjoyed.
  • This temple is less crowded than most, but it hosts a huge golden Buddha which is quite impressive. Well worth the stop if you are in Chinatown. In fact, I would say it's the best thing to see in Chinatown.
  • A decent looking temple. Bangkok has many temples, so this is not really a must-see. However, it's nice to take a photo or two when you're nearby anyway.
  • If you take a selfie or video, they hit you... literally It is a scam!! They let you buy a ticket and them charge you a rental fee for pants and scarf. It didn’t worth your money and time, there are better places like great palace
  • Otherwise unassuming temple in Chinatown, until, that is, a 5 tonne 83% pure (more than 18k) gold Buddha was discovered hidden under a thick layer of plaster that cracked when the statue was dropped when being moved. Now one of the most popular tourist sites in Bangkok, it is well worth a visit from devotees or anyone who wants to see what 5 tonnes of gold looks like!
