Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit), Bangkok

4.4
Witness the delicately modeled beauty of the world's largest gold seated Buddha at Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit). Many of Asia's golden statues were once covered in plaster and stucco to disguise them from invading armies during times of conflict. The discovery of this magnificent golden Buddha was accidental: a team of people moving the object dropped it, its plaster casing cracked, and the golden figure shone out after many years in hiding. Visit the established Bangkok temple complex to admire the Buddha's clear, crisp form and learn of its fascinating origins. • I went from Chinatown. Because it was less than 10 minutes walk back to the Hua lamphong station is within walking distance. Golden Buddha is in the temple is famous. I had seen many heard until 5:00 4:00 was charm shop of the stated problem and priest all ready started and so very disturbing. It is recommended not to bother to go early.

  • For a Thai temple, this is kind of small but amazing architecture. But it’s also not a crowed as the more famous ones. We like it because it was close to the MRT and our hotel.  more »
  • We took in their eyes. The temples stop to put their eyes. A guide is useful

  • Beautiful architecture and design of the temple. Also the statue is said to be made of gold which was only discovered about 60 years or so back and had been covered in stucco or plaster for about 200 years. It was first found lying in the beach is what I was told by the local guide after which it was picked up and placed in a small temple. They discovered that it was good only when they were shifting it for renovations of the same temple. The local tourist shops have reasonable pricing and have some really beautiful things to pick and choose from and of course the shop keepers are extremely polite, so that's a plus as well. It's located almost in the busy part of the city. And I recommend this place to see the beauty and the view from the top of the temple.
  • Nice temple at the very beginning of the Chinatown. Golden Buddha inside! Entrance fee is 50 baht. *On special days, there is no entrance fee. They even set up tables, providing everyone with free food. **Pictures taken at the Chinese New Years. You won’t find dragons or special decorations on regular days.
  • Certainly worth a visit for tourists wanting to experience a thai temple. Beautiful in the way it has been built and crafted. Lovely architecture. It has a golden statue inside too. It was very crowded when we were there though and they did charge to get inside
  • Temple with the largest massive golden sitting Buddha in the world. Buddha is 5 meters high and his weight is five and a half tons. 40 bahts per person for entry. If you are in Bangkok, don't miss it! It is really beautiful place.
  • I had one of the best experiences in their souvenir shop. All items are affordable and blessed by the monks for good fortune. If you can walk the stairs (many) take the elevator on the left corner. When you arrive, go straight to the ticket booth, at the right of the Wat.
