Food Playground, Singapore

5.0
#1 of 21 in Classes in Singapore
Food Playground is a hands-on cooking school that utilises cooking as an avenue to:

a) Provide a cultural immersion experience that showcases Singapore's food culture and heritage

b) Meet corporate team building objectives

c) Enhance interaction in social functions.

Unlike mainstream cooking schools that hire chefs, Food Playground's social mission is to provide meaningful employment by engaging stay-at-home mums and active seniors as culinary instructors and kitchen assistants.

  • This is very interesting activity and Food Playground was so nice that everyone loved it. We went for team building event and everyone wanted to do this activity again. I have a feeling that I made a good decision for team building and I highly recommend this place if you are planning to team building. Staffs are so friendly and nice.
  • Joined a course early Feb. and had a great time. All was well prepared, staff was very attentive and ensured that all participants were happy. Not only do I know now how to make an excellent curry, but gained a lot of insight into the culture and aspects of day to day live of local residents. Join if you have time and are curious to discover more beyond the usual sights!
  • I recently arrived in Singapore and intend to be here for over a year. I have been trying to understand the culture and cuisine. A cookery class seemed to be a good idea! Mary and Sara at food playground were really interesting in their knowledge of the culture which is eating!! Their guidance was excellent and the morning passed too quickly. We ended up with a delicious meal. What a great idea for something to do to understand new places. Will do this again in other places but will be returning for another menu soon. Thank you for a great session.
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and recommend any visitors to spend one of their mornings at this beautifully set up kitchen to learn more about Singapore's food and culture. Come on Aussies ..you have to sign up!
  • Staff from our Student Care were only told that as part of their on-going training, they had to meet at Chinatown Visitor Centre by 9.50am, dressed in comfortable clothes and shoes. Some speculated that we were going for Amazing Race, but no one guessed that the team would be preparing their own lunch. The team started off cautiously, with some maybe even a wee bit annoyed that they were going to be reading recipes, following instructions carefully, slicing, cutting, pounding and cutting chicken fats among other things. However, as the sounds of the activities blended with discussions on recipes and laughter, everyone eased into their roles, occasionally posing for a photo by the friendly facilitator, Lois. We could have done better with time management and even the taste of the meal but we did well with a team of 10, comprising Singaporeans from different ethnic and social backgrounds, and others from Malaysia, Taiwan and Myanmar. Maybe, we would have done better if recipes were also in Chinese, or Burmese, or Malay..... just kidding. Thank you for facilitating our team-building and fun cooking. We, at Marymount Centre wish everyone at Food Playground, a happy and successful 2018.
