Mt Batur, Kintamani

4.2
#1 of 72 in Nature in Bali
#Volcano, #Mountain, #Must See
Trek up Mt Batur, an active volcano situated among impressive natural scenery. Head to its crater on a guided tour, or travel independently--the walk up isn't particularly difficult, even to fairly inexperienced hikers. Set within the much larger crater of a volcano that erupted thousands of years ago, the site offers views from the top that include a crescent-shaped lake and volcanic scenery hemmed in by high crater walls. • Ok, before I go any further, let me just place this disclaimer: It was relatively easy in my opinion. A regular person in good health with an average physical fitness would be more than capable of att...  more »
  • The ascent of mount Batur was a great experience! In the dark the mountain, best spicy but with a normal condition. On the way to the top you get the best hot and do you think why I needed a sweater and long pants on, had my sweater soon around my waist, but once at the top would you prefer something which windproof. We had it despite the sweater and long pants pretty cold until the Sun came up! But what a top view and what an experience!! The trip down is perhaps spicier than up but the views are great!

  • Truly enjoyed the trekking to the top of batur and back down. Watching the sunrise was beautiful. Might have tiring along the way but it was really worth the view.  more »

  • The place is amazing! The best time to climb is before sunrise. A few hours climbing but in the end you will see beautiful sunrise! And after the climbing you can rest in the hot springs which are around mountain. You don’t need special equipment to climb on this volcano. Recommend to take some food and a little bottle of water with you. Mountain monkeys are waiting for you at the top:)
  • I'm here for the outdoor adventures and if there is a mountain to climb all the better. Tips: 1) Wear proper hiking shoes, bring a head torch, and a smallbackpack with a bladder was convenient. 2) Dress in layers as the beginning and end can be hot, but it can be very cold and windy at the top depending on weather. 3) Our guide provided mats to sit on, but some did not. 4) Take just a moment when reserving your guide, as some of the guided tours provided more/different amenities. 5) Take the time to enjoy the surrounding villages and explore. If I had to do it again, I would have stayed longer as the surrounding village is stunning. Also, IT IS expected that you will be guided as a matter of respect to the local people.
  • I walked to the top of the mountain, upper the notice board at the middle. The mountain is very clean, unspoiled, silent and the weather is not hot for a morning walk (weather here is cooler than in the Bukit area of Bali as it is on higher altitudes). Bring your water, but do not bring your trash or throw it at the mountain. You need good walking shoes. The top is very beautiful with the lake and other volcano tops.
  • This is really a great and adventurous place to explore. It is an active volcano which has erupted couple of times in last few years. It is advisable to visit here early morning as there are multiple trekking options available to. It is an 2 hours drive from main bali city. Make sure to carry a little warm cloths while visiting here, and better to drive yourselves here.
  • What an amazing experience, it was the highlight of my stay in Bali as a Hiking lover, you really should not miss it when in Bali and if you love hiking it is a must-to-do trip. You start in the early morning around 1:30-2:00 when the agency pick you up from your place as it takes almost two hours to get to Kantamani having one tea and coffee stop on the way. Then you get a light breakfast of an egg, bread and banana with a bottle of water (it depends on the package you book if you get a second breakfast or not). You start the trekking around 4am to be at the top before sunrise, there are two viewpoints but the second one at the top is the best, it is a bit hard to get to though. Mind the monkeys. Rough trekking, stunning views, great experience overall.
