Mt Batur, Kintamani

#1 of 68 in Nature in Bali
#Volcano, #Mountain, #Must See
Trek up Mt Batur, an active volcano situated among impressive natural scenery. Head to its crater on a guided tour, or travel independently--the walk up isn't particularly difficult, even to fairly inexperienced hikers. Set within the much larger crater of a volcano that erupted thousands of years ago, the site offers views from the top that include a crescent-shaped lake and volcanic scenery hemmed in by high crater walls. • Ok, before I go any further, let me just place this disclaimer: It was relatively easy in my opinion. A regular person in good health with an average physical fitness would be more than capable of att...  more »
  • The ascent of mount Batur was a great experience! In the dark the mountain, best spicy but with a normal condition. On the way to the top you get the best hot and do you think why I needed a sweater and long pants on, had my sweater soon around my waist, but once at the top would you prefer something which windproof. We had it despite the sweater and long pants pretty cold until the Sun came up! But what a top view and what an experience!! The trip down is perhaps spicier than up but the views are great!

  • Truly enjoyed the trekking to the top of batur and back down. Watching the sunrise was beautiful. Might have tiring along the way but it was really worth the view.  more »

  • The volcano trek is an amazing experience and a must do if you are visiting Bali. You book through a local tour guide who will pick you up at your hotel/resort at around midnight. You then go to kintamani from where you will begin the trek. It starts a little after 2 in the morning and you are at the top before sunrise. The sunrise is simply stunning to see above the clouds. Gorgeous views and it will take a while to soak in the view. Atop the mountain, they give you tea and some snacks. There are small holes in the mountain from which hot volcano gases are still coming out. And they are really really hot. They even cook eggs and make tea with the heat of those gases! You can try to feel it but you will pull out your hand is less than split second. There is a lake and some flat land at the top from where you can see the crater as well. You should be back down and back to your hotel/resort by noon or a little after. Overall it is a fantastic experience and you should not miss it.
  • Such a beautiful place/ spot. The place is a really nice to spend sometime looking to the hills and gets overlooked by most travellers. I would suggest to climb the volcano but to also stay in the village and get to know it a bit. The day we been their was raining with dense fog in beginning but soon clear everything and we could she view later. Beautiful natural landscapes and wonderful trail offering natural views. Beautiful natural lake. Great selection of food with buffet in town. I highly recommend to everyone who visiting Bali, Indonesia.
  • We took a sunrise guided tour for 350k from our hostel but I wished we had just done the trek ourselves afterwards. The parking area is easy to find and the hike is really easy to follow and not very difficult. We went on a Sunday and there were hundreds of people climbing at 4am when we arrived. It was like being in line at Disneyland going up the trail but still worth the view at the summit. Hike took 2 hours to summit My suggestion would be to go on a weekday by yourself, however there were a lot of local guides there and as others have said they will give you a hard time if you don't have a guide.
  • I can recommend a sunrise hike (there are a bunch of different companies that provide this tour) It's a moderate hike up on Mt. Batur where you can see the sunrise. It's seams to be a bit of a gamble on what guide you will get, but the one we had was excellent. Some good shoes (like running shoes), shorts and a jacket for when waiting for the sunrise being all swetty. You will get water, but bring one or two bottles more!
  • We got a really good deal with this Sunrise Trekk excursion package. For 4 of us, we each paid $290,000 IDR, which included pick up and drop off at our hotel, breakfast, flashlights, and the hike up Mt. Batur. We were told Mt. Batur wasn’t a rigorous, and that it’s an easy steady climb. So here’s the details: - our van picked us up around 215AM from our hotel - the ride is about 45min to an hour to the home base for breakfast. Breakfast consisted of tea, coffee, and Balinese fried bananas (which are so good) - we load and drive to the starting location for the hike. Where we are given hard boiled eggs, a banana, and sliced bread. Met our guides, was given flashlights, and were on our way. - This is NOT a beginners hike at all in my opinion, you are hiking with various large groups, on narrow trails, that are extremely rocky, and most importantly it’s pitched dark. - The hike takes about 2-3 hours to reach the top to view the sunrise in time, I found it increasingly difficult because of the steepness of the trails, and all the loose volcanic rocks we are trekking over. And with the little to no real food to provide you energy for the hike. I suggest others to bring additional snacks that will provide a decent amount of energy. With all of that, the reward was definitely at the top. It was beautiful, and the view was something I’ve never imagined I’d see. I wouldn’t be able to make it through the hike without the encouragement of other hikers and the amazing guides. They literally held my hand, and gave me as much time as I needed. If you want a challenge with a beautiful view of the sunrise over Bali. Do it.
