The museum houses one the best collections of wayang puppets in the world, including flat leather shadow puppets (wayang kulit) and three-dimensional wooden puppets (wayang golek). Alongside traditional Javanese characters, the displays include puppets and dolls from Malaysia, Thailand, Suriname, China, Vietnam, France, India, and Cambodia. Wayang props and sets, musical instruments, costumes, sculptures, and paintings round out the collection. • It was an eerie but awesome experience seeing strange looking dolls inside the museum, and I felt like a kid again. I was also was able to watch a shadow puppet show which conveys Indonesian values, music and culture. It felt like I'm time traveling to their local villages where it was played. The ticket is cheap, the staff are friendly and helpful, and I think you can make your own puppet. There's also a souvenir shop inside, and a clean toilet as well.
  • The staff were extremely friendly. Place is huge and filled with amazing puppets, rich with history and knowledge about them. I was the last person to be touring the place, staff was extremely patient with me. Waited for me to look at everything I wanted to see. I felt bad and kept apologising but staff kept insisting I took my time. Lovely place. Amazing people.
  • Interesting to see the puppets from all over the world. We booked a private tour and a visit with the puppet master. The kids got to see what it takes to make puppets, a very complex and difficult process. We had a private puppet show. It was very enjoyable and adapted to us. At the end we purchased some beautiful masks and some puppets. This was a highlight of our trip to Jakarta and I highly recommend it.
  • There are English-speaking guides who are clearly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the displays - wish there was more information on how to engage them for guided tours. There's potential for being a truly unique museum of puppet dolls from around the world, if a better visitor experience could be provided. Unfortunately the facilities and displays are rather run-down and the visual presentation of information is lacking. It's a pity.
  • The museum need to renew and add their collection.... But overall, the place is clean, calm and worth to visit with your family, specially young children. Entrance fee is also cheap so it is affordable for everyone to come and enjoy it.
