City Palace of Udaipur, Udaipur

(6,000+ reviews on the web)
History Museum Museum
A lakeside conglomeration of structures merged into a fort-like whole, City Palace of Udaipur represents one of the most iconic and popular attractions in the entire state. You'll immediately notice the palace's crowning glory as you approach--a lengthy and intricate white facade that stretches for 244 m (801 ft) along the lakefront, complete with numerous balconies and verandas. Begun in 1599 by the founder of the city, the palace eventually grew into a semi-connected complex of similar structures. Wander the extensive grounds and explore the numerous courtyards, halls, and elephant-fighting pits within, long used by the ruling family still in possession of the property. Don't miss stopping by the palace's museum to learn more about the history of the region and the fortress itself. Our Udaipur trip itinerary builder makes visiting City Palace of Udaipur and other Udaipur attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • I have been to better palaces for sure. The place is managed properly but I don't think it is worth a second visit. Travel Tip: Avoid going during summers and especially afternoons. Though the inside of the palace is cool and soothing, the city as a whole is boiling. Best time to visit would be evenings.
  • Conserving the ROYAL heritage of Jaipur. Every antique piece has some unique story behind it. Visit the palace with ample time in your hands, behold the antiques, imagine the glory and grandeur of the old and be amazed at each and every article.
  • This palace is phenomenal. The beautiful chandeliers, the beautiful architecture, the lake side view, the furniture, everything is just breath taking. It has the walls decorated with antique swords, paintings of the past and current rulers, perfume bottles, royal cutlery, etc. It is really one of the best historical places you can visit. Cheers :D
  • A must palace to visit. The palace conserve the magic of the royalty, beautiful paintings. If you don't know the history the audio guides are available in different languages, pictures are not allowed inside the palace unless you have paid the fee.
  • Its a nice palace next to the lake. Worth seeing once. Its very beautiful. If you happen to be in Jaipur don't miss to visit this palace.
