City Palace of Udaipur, Udaipur

4.2
A lakeside conglomeration of structures merged into a fort-like whole, City Palace of Udaipur represents one of the most iconic and popular attractions in the entire state. You'll immediately notice the palace's crowning glory as you approach--a lengthy and intricate white facade that stretches for 244 m (801 ft) along the lakefront, complete with numerous balconies and verandas. Begun in 1599 by the founder of the city, the palace eventually grew into a semi-connected complex of similar structures. Wander the extensive grounds and explore the numerous courtyards, halls, and elephant-fighting pits within, long used by the ruling family still in possession of the property. Don't miss stopping by the palace's museum to learn more about the history of the region and the fortress itself. • This is a great place. However one must go in the evening to enjoy the sunset and weather over there. Tickets are little bit expensive but worth buying. Take a guide to enjoy the whole place and don't be in hurry as they are always in hurry. It will take around 3 hr to complete the journey.
  • It is good palace. Many things are here to see like the work on walls, doors and Windows, colorful mirrors, the paintings, door of ivory, kitchen utensils, many things made up of silver, ancient statue etc. The palace is the place for History and monuments lovers. Guides are available here. But the entry fee is too high to visit it. And last one is it takes time to visit properly, so keep 3-4 hours to visit it.
  • A very well maintained place. Try to see the place in less shiny hours (avoid going in afternoon). The palace is huge and it will take around 4 to 5 hours to see the entire premises. If you are photoholic then you are going to love this place. If you are student visiting there then carry you college ID or show the photograph of current year mark list to get the discounted tickets.
  • I have been to better palaces for sure. The place is managed properly but I don't think it is worth a second visit. Travel Tip: Avoid going during summers and especially afternoons. Though the inside of the palace is cool and soothing, the city as a whole is boiling. Best time to visit would be evenings.
  • Feeling of royalty. The palace is very well maintained. The museum tour is good with great views of Lake Pichola though you have to climb up and down a lot of stairs to visit various chambers. The history is preserved well and you can feel the life contemporary of the era.
