Architectural Building Religious Site
A World Heritage Site, Basilica of Bom Jesus serves as the final resting place for widely revered Saint Francis Xavier. Consecrated in 1605, the church and its grand mausoleum housing the canonized Roman Catholic missionary are considered a landmark in Christian architecture. As you approach India's first minor basilica you will be struck by the simplicity of its Jesuit Baroque architecture, looming over the historic streets of Old Goa. Inside, an ornate gilded altarpiece greats you with a warm glow, to the right of which the mortal body of the saint lies, enshrined in the church since 1622. Take a look at our Goa vacation builder to schedule your visit to Basilica of Bom Jesus and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • The Basilica of Bom Jesus has beautiful architecture and very peaceful. It has the relics of St Francis Xavier, patron saint of Goa. While you are here you can also visit the Cathedral which is right opposite this church. Please dress modestly as you are visiting a Holy place. You may not be allowed to enter if they find your dress in appropriate.
  • Historical church. It has ancient Portuguese structures. Always flooded by tourists, mostly from outside India. Calm and peaceful. There's a parking area just outside the church. And one can also find clean drinking water inside as well as outside the church

  • Awesome Portuguese Architecture you will be able to see here !! The Church is considered to be one of the popular and sacred Churches in Goa. Old Goa is famous for its Churches. Basilica of Bom Jesus is full of people anytime in the year. Not only tourists, local Christian Community also comes here. Sometimes you will also be able to see marriage ceremonies. People who are entering inside the Church should follow a descent dress code. In front of the Church, you will find some stalls selling local handicrafts. People are very friendly and co-operative.
