Humayun's Tomb, New Delhi

#1 of 3,326 in Parks in India
Marvel at one of the nation's most renowned mausoleums at Humayun's Tomb, a World Heritage Site displaying a fusion of both Mughal and Persian architectural features. Built in 1565 on orders from Akbar, the son of the Emperor Humayun, the mausoleum represents the first in a long line of "garden-tombs" that defined Mughal architecture over the following centuries. You can admire the intricate red sandstone and white marble construction, topped with an impressive dome, as you wander the extensive grounds dotted with shrines and monuments. Enter the memorial to get a glimpse of Humayun's final resting place. Many of the architectural designs used on the tomb and its surrounding buildings helped to inspire the Taj Mahal. • Humayun’s Tomb was a side trip for us. We had visited the Taj Mahal in Agra earlier in the trip and we decided we should probably check out the “Red Taj” as well while we were in Delhi. It’s really ni...  more »

  • This is a really cool place to visit. They've done a decent job at preservation, and they have a small area near the entrance of the main tomb where they have put up a lot of helpful material about the architecture and the history of the place. I must say I found it very informative, although the presentation leaves lots of room for improvement. Overall, I'd say it's well worth your time. I'd definitely go again.
  • Visited here during a Sunday Evening just before the closing and I was spellbound by this striking piece of architecture. The complex is grandiose and the red sandstone used looks beautiful. Though it was crowded being a Sunday, the sight was still very pretty. Also visit the Isa Khan's Tomb alongside this complex. The museum is also well maintained as are the gardens of the complex and some construction is going along outside to make it even better. I would recommend anyone visiting Delhi to come and visit this place. It's a must visit historical monument.
  • Best to visit in morning when nobody is around. Opens at 6.30. Good huge place to explore. 30rs. for Indian is a good price to visit.Clean tidy place. Visited here 3rd time and always a peaceful place to bring people. A detailed book of importance of this place should be provided which should be reusable for tourists again and again. Toilets available in good condition.
  • Nice place, usually crowded. Very good and clean monuments. There are many tombs near all are connected by pathways. Good place to take pictures. Outside every tomb there is a brief history written about it . The entry fees is about 30 to 40 rupees for India citizens. History lovers should definitely visit and also those who are fan of great architecture.
  • It's a beautiful place. Well maintained. Good time to visit the place is morning during the opening hours itself. Otherwise there will be lot of crowd in both the ticket counter and also inside the place. Also there is an option to book tickets online, if your visit is planned in advanced, I would advise you to book online to avoid standing in the long queue
