Mukteshwar MahadevTemple, Nainital

4.5
#2 of 8 in Historic Sites in Nainital
Take a long winding road up to Mukteshwar MahadevTemple--perched at 2,286 m (7,500 ft), it affords spectacular views of the jagged, snow-capped Himalayan ranges. During fruiting season the surrounding orchards bear apples, peaches, and pears, which you can pluck right from the tree. Religious pilgrims will probably find more to enjoy here than others, meditating and praying in this majestic and remote place. Still, casual visitors can appreciate the hikes with striking vistas, as well as the chance to observe birds of prey as they scour the ground for a meal (bring your binoculars). • Quiet temple at Mukteshwar with Shiva as the presiding deity. One can walk up to the temple from the parking space. It is a beautiful view from the top of the hill. You can trek around the hill with the help of a guide. Some scenic photo spots too. There is a zip line and rappelling point too for the adventurous. Snack and tea by the way side for a break. Must visit if you are in the vicinity.
  • Situated at the highest point in mukteshwar the temple can be reached by climbing around 80 stairs which are not so steep. You can sit in the temple complex and even meditate for some time. One of the few among mountain temples where there are absolutely no monkeys to cause any harm to your belongings.
  • Best location, this place is situated at very high height, u can see Himalayas from here, other than that, u will get to see different types of trees which are herbs and used as medicines. You can get to eat malta and big lemon here, really tasty, and finally a very old and religious place quite and calm place., must visit.
  • Good place to visit, clean and maintained. Don't miss the view point behind temple.
  • Blessed after visiting this 350 years old Sivalayam... View points near by this hysterical temple are excellent...

Many of the more refined options occupy commanding positions by the lake, or use height to their advantage, gaining extensive, postcard-worthy views up the hill to the northwest. Mall Road remains the place to look for the majority of accommodations in town, with a fair set of hotels, homestays, and guesthouses.
