High Altitude Zoo, Nainital

3.9
#1 of 10 in Outdoors in Nainital District
Situated 2,100 m (6,900 ft) above sea level, High Altitude Zoo hosts several endangered Himalayan species. Thanks to the high-altitude location, these animals have a chance to thrive while also providing the opportunity for research and rehabilitation. Observe animals like the Royal Bengal tiger, Tibetan wolf, leopard cat, and Himalayan bear at this attraction, and remember to look up, to spot the variety of high-altitude birds, such as the Lady Amherst pheasant and rose ringed parakeet. Although you can access the zoo by road, expect to do a little uphill trekking when visiting. Consider adopting one of the animals to help cover their rehabilitation costs. • Really enjoyed it.. Reasonable ticket price if Rs 50 only. Free for senior citizens . it's maintained very well.. monday closed.. it will take approximately 2 hrs to visit the entire zoo. We were able to spot 5 leopards and various other endangered species like white peacock. Elderly people might find it a little difficult as it has stairs and uphill walking.
  • Very well maintained management. Every animal which is likely not available in hills can be seen there. There is also a red panda which is very cute. It also has an library Where you can read about every animal in the world . There are also various varieties of birds. There are also various varieties of bears and fishes which you can see.
  • Animals in their almost natural habitat. Good way to know more about the fauna surrounding us. Many different species of birds and animals. The most difficult task is reaching the zoo. The roads are quite steep and moreover inside you have to go up and down along the slopes so not at all recommended for elderly people and if you are in a haste thinking you will have a look at everything within half hour.
  • The place is well maintained and clean. But the high altitude makes it quite a difficult place to walk through the hilly paths all round the zoo...Not suitable for old people and those with respiratory problems. Otherwise the scenic beauty is worth beholding and enjoying...
  • It's a nice place for nature lovers and for children. Birds and animals belonging to high altitude can be seen in this zoo. One can spend here 1-2 hrs easily.
