Gateway of India, Mumbai (Bombay)

(7,500+ reviews on the web)
Specialty Museum Museum
Watching over the Arabian Sea, Gateway of India stands as perhaps the city's most recognizable symbol. The imposing gate, which reaches a height of 26 m (85 ft), reminds visitors of the grand architectural legacy the British colonial empire left behind. Note that the basalt gate fuses several different architectural styles, including Roman triumphal features and local Hindu and Muslim aspects. You can wander through the gate to view the domed ceiling and see the inscription above the arch, dedicated to the visit of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911.
  • Great experience.. The board ride is highly recommended from my side. It was so much fun and thrilling. Plus cleanliness is good and the view of the sea makes you feel like heaven. 😊
  • Well known historical palace. A must watch for anyone vising Mumbai. The structure itself is magnificent and colossal in size. The place once a normal open ground is now highly secured and covered area thanks to the 26/11 attacks. Still a nice place to spend your evening with your family and friends. The only negative - you go at anytime and you will always find a huge crowd there. at peak times, its even difficult to put a step forward. Super challenging if your are travelling with a toddler.
  • One of the most iconic places in India, Gateway of India is the symbol of Mumbai. It is considered as an entrance to this great city. Build by British to honor the first arrival of King George V. This is regarded as a national heritage of India. One if the best tourist attraction in Mumbai. A must visit specially in the evening when the entire structure is lit up in vivid coloured lights, looks really mesmerising.
  • A nice tourist attraction. Good place to chill with your friends. Your visit to Mumbai would be incomplete without coming here and taking pictures. This is closed and not allowed to enter after evening I think so, so you should come in the day time for a safer side.
