Marari Beach, Mararikulam

Head down to Marari Beach, where a thick stripe of palm trees frames the golden sand. A blue rolling sea laps the long sandy beach, and while the roughness of the water makes it far from ideal for swimming, a few tourists and locals do brave a quick splash around. The beach maintains a quieter and more local vibe than many others in the area; you won't find the usual eateries or resorts here, although the nearby village has a couple of refreshment shacks. This beach very beautiful, huge, quiet, very less crowded and clean. Beautiful view of the sunset, safe to play in water (not too much though).. Very few commercial joints nearby making it a peaceful ...  more »

The beach is beautiful but the water looked a bit dirty. A good place to swim or fish. The beach is kids friendly and clean.  more »

This is the cleanest beach I have been, lined with coconuts trees. One can actually see how the tides cut through the sand and bring in back waters.  more »

One of the best beaches in Kerala. Unlike other places, the beach is clean and neat. It has white sand which makes the place very nice. If you like a beach which is not crowded (rare in India) and calm, this is the right one for you. Since the beach is long compared to other Kerala beaches, you will definitely find a place to sit, play and relax. There are a couple of resorts nearby. If you are in need of a rest room, you need rely on neighborhood houses. The local people are very friendly. So you don't feel any difficulty.

Very scenic place. Calm and cool. Enjoyed the tides. Restaurants are available inside. I enjoyed the place. It is not so much crowded.

Far from the maddening crowd of alappuzha beach, here lies a calm and serene beach. Around 14 KM's from Alappuzha, this is a traveller's paradise. Weekends can be crowded as the place is gaining popularity among tourists. There are small shacks where you get tea and snacks, but you can't find hotels nearby, execpt for some upscale resorts. Carry an additional pair of clothes. Reach here early in the morning and you can see fishing activities, chat with the local fishermen and gain an insight into fishing. Overall, good experience.

We found our own space on the beach which may be atypical of Kerala beaches. The only issue is one that Marari beach has in common with the rest of country. Intrusive, sometimes drunk, always misbehaving groups of men who have nothing better in life to do than prey on women. Options for food are limited but again, beach itself is quite a good place, until the crowds find it!
