Hidimba Devi Temple, Manali

Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Hidimba Devi Temple, a sanctuary in the Himalayan foothills dedicated to a deity from the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata. Dating back to the 16th century, the temple was built over a massive, jutting rock, a manifestation of the earth goddess. Interestingly, devotees here pay their respects to the lark rock, instead of an image of the deity. Admire the tall wooden tower and the sacred stone inside, or enjoy the atmosphere of the exterior, surrounded by a tranquil cedar forest. • The Hadimba temple was built in 1553, but the legend of this place dates back to the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The temple is constructed over a huge rock which is worshipped as a representation of Hidimba. The architecture of this temple is also unusual. It consists of four wooden storeys. The interior of the temple is maintained at its original earthen glory much in keeping with undisturbed natural beauty that surrounds the temple. The walls are decorated only with stone and mud impressions and figurines of goddesses and animals etc. The doors are made of intricately carved wood, and the roof is clad in metal.
  • Old wooden temple, surrounded by forest of pine trees, scenery is quite good as well. Also, surrounding area is quite peaceful & clean, well maintained. Temple doors are made of carved wood. Good photography location, because of forest providing a good background. There are some more locations to see around as well. Overall, good place to visit.
  • Very nice Temple must go there with a clean mind and visit the Temple pay to good and hope your wishes are fulfilled. This Temple is very good in structure and the view nearby is nothing like itself . The trees are very beautiful around. The Temple structure is very good and you can take very nice pictures here. The entrance has people who would let you Ride on their yaks. There are many activities on the entrance.
  • Serene beauty in hills. Sit there n relax for a while n enjoy nature. People roam around with Yaks n rabbits for photographs. U may buy hand woven socks caps n gloves too, u may find local lading knotting there itself. Notice d architecture of temple it's simple yet complex to handle nature. Lot of animal heads are added to walls of temple and if u notice brances on tree around they too seem to be anomal.heads with big pointed horns.
  • One of the best historical place to visit in Manali. Tall trees wooden structure of temple. Really clean. Beautiful surrounding. What a place. Good place for photography also.
