Edakkal Caves, Kalpetta

3.6
Neolithic humans probably lived inside Edakkal Caves, which boasts ancient works of art. Although called caves, this geological formation actually represents a 9.1 m (30 ft) deep cleft or rift. Inside you will find pictorial writings, along with carvings of humans and animals dating back to around 6000 BCE. It may take a lot of walking to explore the entire area, so wear comfortable shoes and carry enough water. • Steep walk up a hill for about 30 minutes, lined with some shops along the way, then even higher ascent that's breathtaking and sweaty. Petroglyphs are definitely amazing to see especially when you catch your breath and consider the history and age of it. Quite amazing to think about. Spent about 2.5 hours here. Definitely would recommend to close friend.
  • The Caves are two natural rock formations believed to have been formed by a large split in a huge rock. The carvings inside are extremely beautiful. A trek up the majestic Ambukuthi Hills is required to reach these caves. The aroma of coffee stays with you the entire way. It is truly a surreal experience as we step into the palms of history.
  • A very good place which have historical carvings. You have walk for a long distance to reach the caves. And should climb through rocks to see the historical carving. Before 10years the authorities permits people to climb on top of the cave and you can see two states from there but now it is restricted. Those who comes with young kids will be difficult go inside the caves
  • Awesome view from the top. Make sure you're not carrying unwanted baggage with you. It's a long steep track and trek light. It's super clean and afternoon time not very crowded.
  • Photography is not allowed inside with out a pass.. little struggle to climb up.. but its breathtaking experience when u reach the cave. Really marvelous
