Jaisalmer Fort, Jaisalmer

4.2
Visit the World Heritage Site of Jaisalmer Fort, a vast, sandstone complex that reveals a bustling town within its walls. Built in 1156, the “golden fort,” as the massive fortress is known, acted as a sort of camouflage for the city, blending in with the sweeping sands of the Thar Desert. Take a guided tour to learn about the history of the fort, or take your time and explore the narrow lanes, lined with craft shops, temples, and eateries. Perched on top of a 76 m (250 ft) tall hill, the fortress dominates the surrounding parts of the city and offers panoramic vistas. • Large fort with beautiful architecture. Most of the fort is a market now, only the palace is preserved. The palace is well maintained and takes about 1 and a half hour to walk around. Audio guide facility was available and highly recommended for solo travelers. Carry water or cool drinks while going inside the palace as you can get very thirsty walking around in the hot weather. The palace has some glittery and colorful halls inside. Also on display are some canons and other articles used by the kings who lived there.
  • Jaisalmer is city with nomadic vibe. The fort is a place where you can walk around and explore the lanes all by yourself. There is a museum with usual stuff inside but I think exploring the lanes is more fruitful. I think on the west side of the fort is a point at elevation which is kind of a watch point and has canons as well. It gives an amazing view of the whole city and its limits. Your can actually see the city border and it’s circumference further ahead few windmills and electricity towers in the desert. It’s beautiful
  • The heart of Golden City, this place is must visit for any traveller out there. It is the only Fort where people still live in the Fort Chambers. It is also a fantastic market place where you can get traditional products. The entry to Fort is free which you won't get to see in most of the forts in Rajasthan. Fort consists of several temples and all are fantastically built. You may have difficulty in finding City Point View from where you'll see glimpse of Golden City. But local people are cooperative to guide you there. The professional guides are also available who can guide you all the corners of the monument. You can spend 4-5 hours at this place and can have good sightseeing, food and shopping as well.
  • The fort stands tall in midst of a small but beautiful city. The yellow sandstone glistens in the hot afternoon sun yo give tgis beauty its famed golden glow... The sands of time have withered the stones to perfection leaving one with spectacle of this marvellous creation. The fort is a living fort with around a thousand families living here and that ads to the uniqueness of this fort. The intricate details in the carvings on the stone walls are a magnificent sight for anyone who is an admirer of art!
  • Again a well maintained forts in Rajasthan. A proud for everyone who visits. Scenic views of Jaisalmer city. Totally Golden tiles used by the residents add a glory to the view. Cleanliness in and around the fort must have to be maintained by the Jaisalmer municipal corporation. I may add that heavy fine be impossed on the tourists as well as locals so that we can come across beautiful clean and green Jaisalmer.
