Queen of the Hills

The train, the tea, and the hills bring visitors to Darjeeling, one of India's most famous and well-preserved Raj-era hill stations. Taking the World Heritage-listed small mountain train uphill, you'll see the old colonial buildings cling to the ridges of the hills, and tea plantations blending the greenness of nature with the uniform look of something manmade, all backed by the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. Visits to Darjeeling wouldn't be complete without a cup of locally-grown Darjeeling tea, available throughout the town in a number of teahouses, plantation cafes, and restaurants. Where to stay in Darjeeling

A popular hillside resort town with plenty of attractions old, new, natural, and manmade, Darjeeling has a good number of accommodations to cater to the long list of visitors. Hotels and lodges across the main urban area provide the most popular options in town, with some newly built accommodations sitting alongside particularly well-maintained colonial-era properties. Hostels can be found on the side streets in the main urban area, while further out of town sit a number of eco-lodges and old plantation houses, now open as hotels or rental cottages.
