Amber Fort, Amer

4.7
Perched atop a mountain ridge, Amber Fort impresses visitors with its imposing Hindu architecture of towering ramparts constructed from distinctive red sandstone. Built in 1592, the complex occupies a spot on the World Heritage List, along with several other hill forts in the region. Enter through the Sun Gate, a grand entryway to the fortress' main courtyard. Explore the many different sections within the walls, which include a temple and several halls with intricate ceiling decorations and expansive gardens. Don't miss the Sheesh Mahal section, which boasts a number of ornate carvings and artwork made from glass. From the edge of the ramparts, you can enjoy a sweeping view over the surround valley, lake, and mountains. A visit to Amber Fort represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Jaipur trip planner to plot your vacation.

  • The site of the fortress is impressive. The rise on an elephant to admire the place. For once, the outside is more interesting than the inside. There are still a few rooms.

  • The drive uphill I risky considering there is a traffic jam at 30degree inclined and its difficult to stop and go. Fort a good to visit though not too much to match how famous it is.  more »

  • The place reflects the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan. Elephant ride would be a wonderful experience to many. (some activists may oppose elephant ride, but it's a wonderful experience) There is no cruelty to animals when you ride an elephant. In such case, using an animal to work in the field also would be cruelty :-) Choose the right season to visit. Summer season would be hot. Better hire a local authorised guide if you really want to know more history.
  • An elegantly opulent and beautiful place. The intricate passages and the hidden nooks and crannies are like hidden treasures waiting to be exploited! Awesome experience. Take a few friends or a lover along to truly remember Amer.
  • Just like something out of a film set! You don't need to take an elephant to the fort- get your driver to let you off at the pedestrian entrance. Saves on endangered elephants! The building is superb, inside and out. More of a fortified grand palace than a fort. Well worth a journey!
  • Truly is a beautiful historical place! The ongoing work with the cut mirrors is amazing . I would recommend visiting it hopefully next time I'm there it will be complete! The garden is symmetrically kept. There are more run down parts of the palace e but that is what I believe gives it great character and certainly transports you to the time it was filled with royalty
  • Awesome fort... I have ever seen... All type of palaces are have diff. Usually crowded by tourists.. surrounded by beautiful mountains. Elephants rides are also available here. One can park his vehicle at fort's parking.

Where to stay in Jaipur

With a big selection of budget and mid-range hotels, Jaipur serves as an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area. Many taxi and rickshaw drivers aggressively push their choice of hotels on unwitting tourists--if you refuse their suggestions, they might double the fare. To avoid this inconvenience, book your room ahead and call the hotel to arrange for a pickup--many offer shuttle services to and from the train and bus station.
