#1 of 9 in Things to do in Delphi
Delphi contain the remains of sanctuaries dedicated to the cults of Apollo and Athena, as well as several other structures presumably built for sports. Providing a glimpse into the ancient world's religious beliefs, these ruins joined the list of World Heritage sites in 1987. Tradition says Zeus determined this location as the center of Gaia, the great mother of all in Greek mythology. Apollo's sanctuary, built here in the 4th century BCE, served as the cultural and religious center of ancient Greece for many centuries. The sanctuary famously housed Apollo's oracle, a priestess capable of making prophesies by channeling the god's spirit. • It is an interesting site but I think it was better. Visit the site and the Museum gave me an idea more closer to the real importance of this pilgrimage site.

  • Yes, the site was wrecked by multiple invaders, time, and climate, but it's still gorgeous from multiple perspectives. Climb the hill to the top. There's much to see on the way up and back. The stadiu...  more »
  • This looks like my photo of the temple of Athena. It was a bit away from that of Apollo and the other buildings, but so beautiful and spiritual.  more »

  • Just go to Delphi! Ask for your fortune and enjoy walking up and down the quaint mountainside village, narrow streets and lovely restaurants. We took a school group to Greece and Delphi was a standout location with amazing views and an intriguing historical location to spend a good part of the day.
  • Delphi is a "must see" place in Greece with amazing ancient historical places and beautiful landscape, about 3 hours by bus from Athens(first bus from Athens 7:30 am, good time for returning bus from Delhi 16:00, return bus ticket costs 32.8 EU). It's advised to check weather forecast in advance, and be prepared for some rain or wind (in march at least). Started the siteseing from sacred way via the temple of Apollo up to the stadium, then going down passing the theatre, crossing the road and viewing the sanctuary. Visiting the museum probably is a good option for afternoon.
  • Incredible place, where time is suspended between majestic mountains and marks of an other age of human race. The stadium is in incredible state, the temple of Apollo is so huge as well. So beautiful and inspiring, I’m glad we took time to discover this place. Entrance is 6€ for the outside area and the museum. Other part with the famous Tholos (circular temple) is in free access.
  • Incredible place, the history is so rich and fascinating, and you can just imagine what it was like climbing up the steps as a pilgrim over 2000 years ago. The surrounding landscape is also amazing. I highly recommend visiting this beautiful place, it's worth every effort. Simply breathtaking.
  • Big and open historical place. I recommend a tour guide for all interesting informations about temples, monuments and amphitheatres. There's a lot of stair climbing. You have to take time to see everything and don't hurry while visiting. It's worth a visit.
