Spanjola, Hvar

#1 of 39 in Things to do in Hvar
features an impressive collection of amphorae and other objects from ancient times and the Middle Ages. From the town square, walk north, passing the main city gate. Climb the stairs of the medieval city walls to the fortress. Perched on a hill, it offers a panoramic view of Old Town and Pakleni Islands. Built at the beginning of the 16th century, the fortress was restored after the explosion of the powder chamber in 1579. The French added some reinforcements during their rule. Austrians built the barracks and observation post. Arrange to visit Spanjola and other attractions in Hvar using our Hvar trip itinerary maker.

You must have visited the fortress Spanjola in Hvar. You can reach before the fortress with the car. Then pay admission 40 HRK (approx. 7 EUR) and has incredible views. Man can enjoy also a little refreshment in the restaurant. I recommend to go early morning because the entire fortress made of stone which absorbs the warmth of the Sun and yet has saved this also late evening. So bring enough water in any case it is very warm!

The trouble on the streets of the old part of Hvar is certainly worth the view you can enjoy once you get to the top. For the less adventurous you can go by car. Sensational view. Inside you can admire a collection of amphorae collections in the depths of the Adriatic Sea.

Went up to the fortress to see the view and it was magical. A little sad that it cost so we skipped a chick inside, but is certainly worth a visit after trouble on the way up.

Beautiful gentle climb up through the narrow streets and long stairways of the old town. Then on up the winding path through the "herb garden" under the pine trees to the Fort at the top. Well preserved, great views and a nice cafe for a cold draught beer in the Fort itself. A fascinating time for about 2 to 3 hours.

Amazing views of Hvar harbour. And a nice cafe bar in the fort to cool off in after the climb up. Definately worth a visit

Great climb up to the castle. Worth the cost to go inside. The view is amazing

Great place to see the town from the birds eye angle. And the ancient construction is very interesting by itself.
