Chele La Pass, Paro

4.6
#1 of 7 in Outdoors in Paro
Marvel at snow-clad rugged mountain peaks surrounding you at Chele La Pass, one of the highest observation decks in Bhutan and the highest one you can reach by a motor vehicle. Standing at 3,988 m (13,084 ft), the highest motorway in the country offers spectacular views of mountains and valleys with yaks grazing in the distance. Observe a thick forest of poles with fluttering prayer flags next to the road, which locals put up to scare demons. The two-hour ride from Paro runs through thick forests, passing scenic waterfalls, rivers, and rare flowers. Bring some warm clothes. • Situated at around 3988m above mean sea level, this is the highest pass connected through a motorable road. You also get to do some hiking in the area around it. Please carry drinking water, eatables and warm clothes with you as it is quite windy during the hike. Just 50 m above this place you reach hill top - a great place to camp n meditate !
  • Top ten places to visit in Bhutan. Keep water, food and warm clothes with you. Can visit mountain nearby
  • At 13000ft above sea level and the highest pass in Bhutan it cannot be any better. A must visit place if you ever visit Bhutan. You can view the highest peak of Bhutan from here. A DSLR is a must if you wish to capture the depths of beauty of this scenic location. Plus we found snow on the way which made the journey more wholesome.
  • It's an amazing place.. if ur lucky and visit in the morning during winters you'd get to see snow covered roads.
  • This is the place I found Best in my Bhutan visit, During my visit in Jan 2018, I did not find snow anywhere in Bhutan but on the way to this it was there, streams were frozen and it was very amazing place. Do NOT miss this place. Please remember there is one stream around 10 km prior to this, it was fully frozen and you can enjoy in it. In fact route to chele LA from Paro is the main attraction. You can get Tea and some Bhutanese drink in the Pass as well.
